About
my work philosophy
I’m Ila, a design leader who believes the best design work happens when strategy, craft, and collaboration align.
Over fifteen years, I’ve built and led design teams at Trumpet, Unibuddy, Doctify, and O2 Telefónica, with earlier roles at Revolut, DDB, and Elsevier. I focus on embedding design as a strategic function, implementing frameworks that improve delivery velocity by 25%, reduce handoff friction by 20%, and elevate team maturity from reactive to strategic.
The work I’m most proud of isn’t the systems. It’s watching designers grow into confident leaders who shape product strategy and influence business decisions. I specialise in the transition points that challenge design teams: scaling from startup to scale-up, moving from execution to strategy, and positioning design as a genuine business partner. These transitions require more than craft. They require stakeholder fluency, commercial awareness, and the ability to translate design value into language leadership understands.
That’s what I write about: the practical skills, frameworks, and strategic thinking that help senior designers become design leaders. The stuff they don’t teach in design school but determine whether your work creates real impact.
If you’re navigating the messy middle between maker and leader, you’re in the right place.
